Spring is in the air!

We have still had very few boats out on the water, so it is still difficult to guess how the fishing is right now. Hopefully, we'll have a few boats out this coming weekend, and we'll certainly pass along whatever info we get.

We have added a new feature to our website that we think everyone will find useful: real-time weather data from our new weather station that uploads data every three seconds. You can access that info from our webcam page, or by going directly here. It's a "work in progress," so bear with us! You can also get this information, along with a forecast, marine conditions and other data, by visiting the Sekiu Weather Underground page.

Also, for those of you with laptops, we have installed a wireless access point at the marina store, which will make it very easy for you check your e-mail while visiting us!

Our halibut season has been set: May 25 through August 5, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We anticipate a halibut derby either the first or second weekend of June... stay tuned for details.

For those of you interested in halibut fishing off the coast, Areas 3 and 4 will open May 9 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until the quota is filled.

On a somewhat related note, we had two visitors pop in last night. These two swans graced us with their presence, and as of this morning, are still here! Long-timers in town say they have never seens swans here...

We are also starting to get some idea of what to expect this summer for salmon fishing. However, even as our season will stay pretty close to what we had last year, look for a drastic hit on the chinook fishery off the coast. We'll certainly post info on the upcoming season as soon as we receive it.

Our first scheduled blackmouth derby will be April 8-9, 2006.
